2014 Buckeye Livestock Judging Camp - June 23-25

This camp is open to any youth from 9th grade and above for the 2014-15 school year, incuding 2014 high school graduates eligible for the Ohio State Fair Livestock Judging Contest. Camp will include sessions focused on livestock evaluation, EPD's, and advanced oral reasons. It will be held on The Ohio State University Campus, Department of Animal Sciences. Youth will stay in OSU dorms. Camp fee is $225.00 with a non-refundable deposit due with registration by May 30. For more information contact Kyle Culp at culp.1045@osu.edu. Ohio State 4-H Livestock Skillathon Team

The State 4-H Livestock Skillathon Team provides learning laboratory opportunities for youth which will enhance their knowledge of the beef, sheep, swine, and goat industries and issues facing these industries, all within a fun setting.

The Skillathon Team provides experiential learning opportunities that develop critical thinking and problem solving skills and tests one’s ability to apply information. Also, the team provides opportunities that develop and recognize teamwork. Moreover, the team encourages youth to expand their knowledge of the livestock industry and become proficient in livestock management practices and quality assurance.

Additionally, the team serves as an award activity and trip for youth who have achieved superior levels of performance in state competition. Therefore, the team stimulates their learning processes, interest, and enthusiasm of the livestock industries.

Livestock Judging

The Ohio 4-H Livestock Judging Team is selected from the Ohio State Fair Livestock Judging Contest (application and information found in our calendar of events). The top 3 teams at the contest are eligible to participate. The selected teams will compete at several different national contests including the top team competiting at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky. Other trips include the Keystone International, National Western, Kansas City Royal, and other great contests!
